Lago Trasimeno (PG) Umbria

Lake Trasimeno, with its woods and olive grove covered hills, is one of Umbrian’s most characteristic environments.

Trasimeno`s beautiful landscapes can be enjoyed in detail while riding a bike. Indeed, the uninterrupted series of Trasimeno’s pathways, all ups and downs, among olive groves and vineyards, is the perfect place for a wonderful biking experience. Pleasant sensations, a mix of scents and natural sounds are the hard-worn reward for all who come near Trasimeno to enjoy it by bike.

The Lake Trasimeno cycling trail for example was planned and built to promote a better knowledge of the large Umbrian lake’s eco-system. It is accessible only to cyclists and hikers and takes you over dirt roads passing through cultivated fields and cane thickets. The section between Castiglione del Lago and Torricella is now open, and covers approximately half of the lakes perimeter.

Mountain-biking over the hills of the lake is a true must-do for lovers of this sport. Sixteen loop trails are awaiting you and a special biking guide book, complete with maps and vital information is available in book stores and news stands, as are detailed maps of the area.

The Trasimeno loop is a circular trail which twists, in most parts, on good dirt tracks. It consists of a total of 116 kilometres and is recommended in three stages, allowing for rests in villages or in the countryside crossed by the itinerary.

Walking and hiking around the Trasimeno is yet another worthwhile experience. The entire area is crisscrossed with innumerable trails: ancient roads connecting farms with little roads which lead to dozens of country churches, watch towers, tiny hamlets and intimate solitary places full of history, stories and traditions. For those who desire going for walks on guided paths there are more than a dozen ring walks available. Walking around the lake and on the summits of hills, through ancient woods, in and about villages and hamlets offers stunning views of the blue lake and its three islands (Maggiore, Minore and Polvese). Each corner of this land built for people is friendly and welcoming.

Horse riding along the evocative pathways of the Trasimeno area is another pleasant experience, a further occasion to enjoy the lake’s beautiful sights. Riding stables specialized in horse rental, guided trail rides and excursions, riding lessons and rest stops are all available around Lake Trasimeno. If you prefer an ecological approach to discover the Trasimeno territory, you should go for a horse ride while enjoying the region.
